SOLAR GRASS CUTTER.

Solar grass cutter is also known by the name solar lawnmower. A lawnmower is a machine that uses one or more revolving blades to cut lawn to an even height. The blades may be powered either by hand pushing the mower forward to operate the mechanical blades or may have an electric motor or an internal combustion engine to spin their blades. Some mowers also include other abilities, like mulching or collecting their clippings. An electrical Lawn Mower is more suitable & easy to use than the lawnmower with an engine. A Solar grass cutter is a machine that uses sliding blades to cut a lawn at an even length. Even more sophisticated devices are there in every field. Power consumption becomes essential for the future. Solar grass cutter is a very useful device which is very simple in construction. It is used to maintain and upkeep lawns in gardens, schools, colleges, etc. The rapid growth of various high-tech tools and equipment makes our jobs done in a comfortable and sophisticated manner. The project aims at fabricating a grass cutting machine system that makes the grass cutter working through motor that runs using solar energy. Power plays a great role wherever man lives and works. Grasscutter machines have become very popular today. Most common machines are used for soft grass furnishing.

WORKING PRINCIPLE OF SOLAR GRASS CUTTER

The working principle of solar grass cutter is it has a panel arrangement at an in such a way that it can receive solar radiation with high intensity easily from the sun. The solar panel converts solar energy into electrical energy. This electrical energy is stored in batteries by using a solar charger. The main function of the solar charger is to increase the current from the panel while batteries are charging. The motor is connected to batteries through connecting wires. Between these mechanical circuit breaker switch is provided. It starts and stops the working of the motor. From this motor, power transmits to the mechanism and this makes the blade to rotate on the shaft this makes to cut the grass.

COMPONENTS OF SOLAR GRASS CUTTER 

The solar grass cutter has some specific parts used in it so as to take out its function intended to do. As our project is focusing on the use of solar power, storing it in the battery and then using it to run the motor that in turn rotates the cutting blades and wheel. The main components of a solar grasscutter:

  • Solar panel
  • Battery
  • 12 V DC motor
  • Cutting blades
  • Spur Gears
  • Bearings
  • Sheet metal
  • Metal rods 

MATERIALS AND METHOD

The cutting blade, the force required to cut the lawn as well as the force acting on the blade was considered. The force required by any sharp object to having an impact on the grass is less than 10 Newton. It also depends on the height, density, and area covered by the object. Therefore in designing the blade of the solar-powered lawnmower, the force required for effective moving should be greater than 10 Newton. Stainless steel was used in the construction of the cutting blade because of its strength and weight which can transmit the same speed as that of the dc motor or a little less cause of friction.

MECHANICAL ARRANGEMENTS OF SOLAR GRASS CUTTER

The mechanical arrangements consist of:

  • External framework
  • Solar frame
  • Shaft with freewheel bearing
  • Dc motor
  • Blade
  • Battery 

ADVANTAGES 

  • Easy to use because it is cordless.
  • With battery-powered grass cutter, there is no more messy oil & smelly gasoline.
  • Now we are safe with no pollutants emitted. There are also no air filters & spark plugs to bother it.
  • The cost of electricity to recharge the battery is minimal compared to the high cost of gasoline, oil, air filters & spark plugs.
  • High conversion efficiency.
  • It has fewer moving parts.
  • Less space required.
  • Noiseless operations so readily accepted in residential areas.

DISADVANTAGES

  • The eventual disposal of batteries is problematic.
  • The motors in cordless cutter lend to be less powerful than gasoline motors of the same total weight.

The main aim of the project is to design and fabricate an eco-friendly device named as the solar grass cutter. There had been many attempts in the past too for making a device that cuts the grasses but was mainly focused on the use of the muscle power either human or animals. Also, development has led towards the utilization of electric power in order to move lawnmower. Now the world is facing an energy crisis and people are more focused on using renewable energy sources for every activity that is consuming the non-renewable resources.
