PNEUMATIC – LIFT.
A pneumatic lift is one of the more contemporary designs for residential elevators. Pneumatic systems used extensively in the industry are commonly powered by compressed air or compressed inert gases. This type requires minimal installation and fits easily into most homes. A centrally located and electrically powered compressor powers cylinders, air motors, and other pneumatic devices.
A pneumatic system controlled through manual or automatic solenoid valves is selected when it provides a lower cost, more flexible, or safer alternative to electric motors and actuators. Pneumatic elevators utilize air pressure to lift the elevator cab. The cab has a vacuum seal built into the ceiling. Many pneumatic elevators are glass elevators, meaning the elevator cab is transparent. This is aesthetically pleasing.
TYPES OF PNEUMATIC LIFT
Although pneumatic cylinders will vary in appearance, size, and function, they generally fall into one of the specific categories shown below. However, there are also numerous other types of pneumatic cylinders available, many of which are designed to fulfill specific and specialized functions.
Double-acting cylinders;-
Double-acting cylinders (DAC) use the force of air to move in both extend and retract strokes. They have two ports to allow air in, one for outstroke and one for instroke. Stroke length for this design is not limited, however, the piston rod is more vulnerable to buckling and bending. Additional calculations should be performed as well.
Multi-stage, telescoping cylinder;-
Telescoping cylinders, also known as telescopic cylinders can be either single or double-acting. The telescoping cylinder incorporates a piston rod nested within a series of hollow stages of increasing diameter. Upon actuation, the piston rod and each succeeding stage “telescopes” out as a segmented piston. The main benefit of this design is the allowance for a notably longer stroke than would be achieved with a single-stage cylinder of the same collapsed (retracted) length.
One cited drawback to telescoping cylinders is the increased potential for piston flexion due to the segmented piston design. Consequently, telescoping cylinders are primarily utilized in applications where the piston bears minimal side loading.
Pneumatic System;-
1-A method of generating compressed air to power the system. This is usually a plant air compressor and often includes pressure tanks, for reserve air, and distribution piping to machines and equipment.
2-One or more air-driven work devices. These can be linear or rotary actuators (cylinders), grippers, motors, air nozzles, etc.
HOW DO PNEUMATIC LIFTS WORK
Pneumatic Elevators – The vacuum mechanism inside a pneumatic elevator is very simple. Since air pressure is vital in making the elevator car ascend and descend, the vacuum is responsible for creating a low-pressure, high-pressure environment inside the tube. … Once the air is equalized, the elevator car comes to a stop.
COMPONENT OF LIFT;-
1-Lift Car- It is a vertically moving chamber in which passengers or goods are transported. It is mainly constructed of steel or iron attached to the steel frame. It is provided with a door, floor panel indication, emergency button, phone, lightning, and many emergency supplies.
2-Lift Door- The utilization of center opening doors is recommended as they reduce the round trip time and help in improving the efficiency of lift.
ADVANTAGES OF PNEUMATIC LIFT
1-The simplicity of design and control—Machines are easily designed using standard cylinders and other components and operate via simple on-off control.
2-Reliability—Pneumatic systems generally have long operating lives and require little maintenance. Because gas is compressible, equipment is less subject to shock damage. The gas absorbs excessive force, whereas fluid in hydraulics directly transfers force. Compressed gas can be stored, so machines still run for a while if electrical power is lost.
3-Safety—There is a very low chance of fire compared to hydraulic oil. New machines are usually overloaded safely to a certain limit. Ex-(Hydraulic Lifts)
CONCLUSION;-
Instead of using hydraulic lift we have used mechanically operated pneumatic lift which is more cost-efficient and portable. We have designed scissor lift in such a way that it has reduced design complexities. All the design calculations are performed taking into consideration the dimensions of the car and all the safety issues. Modifications can be done by providing rollers to the lower base so it could be portable. Also by providing upper magnetic base ferrous material can be held easily.
